How to Set Up IPTV on Any Android TV Box (Step-by-Step)
11/6/2025

While the Amazon Firestick is incredibly popular, Android TV Boxes offer a more open and customizable platform for IPTV streaming. Because they run a full version of Android, you often have more flexibility and access to a wider range of apps.
This guide will cover the two primary methods for installing any IPTV service on your Android TV Box.
What is an Android TV Box?
An "Android TV Box" can refer to two things:
- Official Android TV: Devices like the Nvidia Shield or Chromecast with Google TV, which run the official "Android TV" OS.
- Generic Android Box: Cheaper, unbranded boxes that run a "stock" version of Android, similar to a tablet.
The good news is that both types use the same installation methods.
Before You Start: Enable 'Unknown Sources'
Just like on a Firestick, you must first give your device permission to install apps from outside the Google Play Store.
- From your home screen, go to Settings.
- Navigate to Security & Restrictions (on some devices, this may be under "Advanced Settings" or "Device Preferences").
- Find the "Unknown sources" option.
- Toggle it to "On" or "Allow." You may need to do this specifically for the "Downloader" app, which we'll install next.
Method 1: Installing via the Google Play Store (Easiest)
If your IPTV provider has an app on the Google Play Store (or if you're using a popular player like TiviMate), this is the simplest way:
- Open the Google Play Store from your home screen.
- Search for your provider's app name.
- Click "Install" and then "Open".
- Log in with your username, password, and server URL.
Method 2: Sideloading with the 'Downloader' App (Most Common)
Most premium IPTV services require you to "sideload" a specific .apk file. The process is very similar to the one used for the Amazon Firestick.
Step 1: Install the 'Downloader' App
If your box has the Google Play Store, search for "Downloader by AFTVnews" and install it. If your box doesn't have the Play Store, you may need to open your built-in web browser and search for the Downloader app's .apk file to install it first.
Step 2: Enter Your IPTV App's .apk Link
When you sign up for your IPTV service, you'll get an .apk download link.
- Open the Downloader app.
- In the main URL bar, type in the exact .apk link provided by your IPTV provider.
- Click "Go".
Step 3: Install and Log In
The app file will download.
- Once the download is complete, an installation window will appear. Click "Install".
- After it's installed, click "Open".
- The app will launch. Enter your IPTV subscription credentials (username, password, and server URL) to start streaming.
