How to Fix a 'No EPG Data' or 'TV Guide Empty' Error
11/6/2025

You turn on your IPTV and all your channels are working, but when you open the TV guide (EPG), it's completely blank. It just says "No Information" or "No EPG Data" for every channel.
This is a common, frustrating issue. Here’s how to fix it.
What is an EPG and Why Is It Empty?
EPG stands for Electronic Program Guide. It's the data that tells your app what show is on "HBO" at 8:00 PM. This data is downloaded from a separate URL (an "EPG link" or "XMLTV file").
Your guide is empty for one of three reasons:
- Your app failed to download the EPG data.
- Your app doesn't know where to get the data (a bad link).
- Your provider's EPG data is temporarily offline.
How to Fix an Empty TV Guide
Fix 1: Reload/Refresh the EPG in Your App
This is the most common fix. Your app may have just failed its daily EPG update.
- On IPTV Smarters: Go to Settings > EPG > Refresh EPG.
- On TiviMate: Go to Settings > EPG > Update EPG.
Wait for the download to complete and check your guide again.
Fix 2: (Xtream Codes) Re-Check Your Login
If you used the "Xtream Codes API" to log in, your EPG is loaded automatically. A "No EPG" error can mean your main login failed. Go to your user settings, log out, and log back in, carefully checking your Username, Password, and Server URL for typos.
Fix 3: (M3U Link) Check Your EPG URL
If you logged in using an M3U link, you likely had to enter a second link for the EPG (or XMLTV URL).
- Go to your app's playlist settings.
- Find the "EPG URL" field.
- Carefully check it for typos. Copy and paste it from your welcome email if possible.
Fix 4: Clear Your App's Cache
Sometimes, a corrupted EPG file is "stuck" in your app's cache.
- Go to your device's Settings (on your Firestick or Android Box).
- Go to Apps > Manage Applications.
- Find your IPTV player (e.g., TiviMate).
- Select "Clear Cache". (Do NOT select "Clear Data," as this will erase your login).
- Re-open the app. It will be forced to download a fresh copy of the EPG.
Fix 5: Wait and Be Patient
Downloading EPG data for 10,000+ channels can take time. When you first log in, it's normal for the EPG to be empty for 5-10 minutes while it downloads in the background.
Fix 6: Contact Your Provider
If you've tried all these steps and the guide is still empty, the EPG link from your provider may be offline. Contact support at our Help Center and let them know.
IPTV Technical Glossary
Essential terminology every IPTV user should understand
ISP Throttling
This occurs when your Internet Service Provider intentionally slows down your connection when they detect high-bandwidth streaming activities. This is the #1 cause of buffering during live sports events. Using a specialized VPN hides your traffic, preventing your ISP from inspecting data packets and lowering your speed.
M3U Playlist
A text file format that contains a list of media URLs. In IPTV, the M3U link is the 'key' that connects your device to the streaming server. It is often replaced by 'Xtream Codes' (Username/Password) which is simply a more user-friendly way to authenticate that same M3U connection.
Sideloading
The process of installing applications on a device (like an Amazon Firestick or Android Box) that are not available in the official App Store. This is standard practice for IPTV players like Smarters Pro or TiviMate, requiring the 'Downloader' app to fetch the APK file directly.
EPG (Electronic Program Guide)
The digital menu that shows you what is playing on each channel, along with a schedule for the next 7 days. If your EPG says 'No Information', it usually means the XML link in your playlist settings needs to be updated or refreshed.
Packet Loss
When data 'packets' traveling from the server to your device get lost in transit. Unlike VOD (Netflix), live TV cannot buffer ahead, so even 1% packet loss results in freezing or looping. This is often fixed by switching from WiFi to a hardwired Ethernet connection.
Transcoding
The process of converting a video stream from one format to another. A 'Hardware Decoder' setting in your app allows your device's processor to handle this efficiently, ensuring smooth 4K playback without overheating or lag.
